  1. I too came of age during the turbulence and tragedies of the ’60’s, the Jim Crow Era.

Growing up Catholic in the South sensitized me to the intimidation and fear factor of the KKK. Whites Only signs, Walter Cronkite on the Evening News with horrible images of Bloody Sunday, the Sixteenth Street Bombing, firehouses, dogs, and troopers on horseback are vivid images in my memory. I was a junior at Tuscaloosa High School during our first year of desegregation.

I’d love to have a copy of “John and Mary Margaret.”

  2. Hi, Susan, I would love to win a copy of “John And Mary Margaret”. I borrowed a copy from a friend and enjoyed reading it very much. I was touched by how you wove the effects of two types of dementia in your story. I loved the ending. I was impressed by the quotes you used at the beginning of each chapter. I especially liked the quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the beginning of the last chapter. I believe your novel illustrates how prejudice and opportunities have improved during the past seventy years. Of course there can be more improvement. We can still celebrate what has been accomplished in our country which is a beacon of freedom. I had planned to get my own copy of this novel, but life happened and I have not gotten a copy yet. Your efforts show what perseverance and hard work can accomplish. God is with you. With warm regards,
    Deborah Amick
