Mississippi’s Literary Lawn Party
If you read my post from July 22, you know how excited I was to be on this amazing panel at the 2021 Mississippi Book Festival. Although I have had a wonderful time touring the southeast for events for my new novel JOHN AND MARY MARGARET, this festival was to be the highlight of that tour. 10,000 people were expected to attend Mississippi’s “Literary Lawn Party.” Of course I completely agree with the decision to cancel due to the pandemic, especially since Mississippi was the LEAST-VACCINATED STATE in the country recently. (Thankfully, vaccinations are on the rise there now.)
Lemuria Bookstore
In addition to the hundreds of volunteers who have worked tirelessly to organize this year’s festival, I am especially sad for my friends at Lemuria Bookstore in Jackson, who were set to handle book sales for the festival. PLEASE order my novel JOHN AND MARY MARGARET from Lemuria, as well as books by your other favorite authors who have lost the opportunity to speak and sign books at the festival this year. As I was cancelling my reservation for the weekend at the Jackson Westin Hotel, I thought about how much they were going to lose as a result of this event closure. And the wonderful restaurants and museums in Jackson who were expecting so many visitors. I hope to get back down to Jackson soon and support those businesses!
Hi, Susan-
Sorry about Mississippi’s Literary Lawn Party. I did order Friends of the Library from Lemuria.
Yesterday our Monika made Librarian 3 at Yale, equivalent to tenure. She’s an archivist in Special Collections.
Your jr. comrade,
Dn. Charlie
Big congrats to Monika! I hope you enjoy Friends of the Library and that it will inspire you to read JOHN AND MARY MARGARET! Thanks for reading and commenting.
